The initial idea for ARBEC was to create an electronic platform to publish review papers on research in the field of biodiversity within the ASEAN region. Forest Research Institute Malaysia One of the leading institutions in tropical forestry research, both within the country and abroad. Founded by British colonial forest scientist in 1929, the former Forest Research Institute with Dr F.W. Foxworthy as its first chief research officer, became a statutory body governed by the Malaysia Forestry Research and Development Board under the Ministry of Primary Industries in 1985 and then in 2004, FRIM became a statutory body governed under Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment. Malaysian Nature Society The MNS has been contributing towards the protection of Malaysia’s natural heritage since 1940. Being a membership organization we have been the reason behind the protection of many key habitats as well as national and state parks in Malaysia. Malaysian Timber Certification Council The MTCC is an independent organisation established to develop and operate a voluntary national timber certification scheme in Malaysia, in order to provide independent assessments of forest management practices as well as to meet the demand for certified timber products. Timber certification is a market-linked tool to promote and encourage sustainable forest management as well as to provide an assurance to buyers that the timber products they buy come from sustainably managed forests.
